Sinfield‘s Epic MND Challenge Nears Finish Line in Leeds

Kevin Sinfield is set to conclude his grueling “7 in 7” challenge today in Leeds, completing seven consecutive ultramarathons across the UK and Ireland to raise funds and awareness for motor neurone disease (MND). The former rugby league star began his challenge on December 1st, and has already covered nearly 190 miles, pushing his physical and mental limits to support those living wiht the devastating condition.

Sinfield’s endeavor is a deeply personal one, inspired by his former teammate and friend, Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019. The challenge aims to raise significant funds for MND research and support, while also highlighting the urgent need for a cure. The final leg in Leeds will mark the culmination of weeks of relentless running, and a powerful exhibition of solidarity with the MND community.

The challenge began in East Anglia with a run from Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club to Portman Road stadium in Ipswich on December 1st.The following day, sinfield and his team travelled to Cork, Ireland, in tribute to RTE broadcaster Charlie Bird, who sadly passed away from MND in 2024.

Days three and four saw the team cover ground in Wales and Yorkshire respectively. The Welsh leg involved a circuit of Swansea, while in Yorkshire, Sinfield started at Bramall lane in Sheffield and finished at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), a leading MND research center.

the fifth day took the team from Workington to Whitehaven in Cumbria, before heading to Scotland on day six. Ther, they ran from carnoustie Golf Club into Dundee, culminating with a finish on the pitch at Dundee FC’s Dens Park stadium before a match kickoff.
