Former Spartak Moscow advisor Franco Camozzi has described Balтика Kaliningrad head coach Andrey Talalaev as the “Russian Mourinho,” praising his passion and intensity following a recent disciplinary action against the coach. The comments come as Talalaev is set to miss four upcoming Russian Premier League matches due to his conduct during a match against CSKA Moscow, according to reports on March 20, 2026.
Camozzi, who previously served as an advisor to former Spartak owner Leonid Fedun, emphasized the importance of Talalaev’s emotional engagement with the game. “His enthusiasm and passion are simply necessary for revitalizing teams in crisis and building collective unity,” Camozzi told “RB Sport,” as reported by Euro-Football.ru.
The disciplinary action stems from an incident where Talalaev kicked the ball out of the playing area during the match against CSKA, leading to a confrontation. The Russian Football Union’s Control and Disciplinary Committee subsequently imposed a four-match ban, ruling him out of games against Sochi, Krasnodar, Pari NN and Dinamo Makhachkala.
Camozzi too addressed recent claims made by Talalaev regarding a potential move to Spartak Moscow in the past. Talalaev had stated he had held discussions with Luca Cattani, who served as Spartak’s sporting director between 2021 and 2022. However, Camozzi expressed surprise at this assertion. “I’m hearing this for the first time that Cattani, whereas working at Spartak, spoke with Talalaev. It’s best to inquire Luca,” Camozzi stated to Championat.com.
Talalaev took charge of Balтика in 2024, having previously managed teams including Akhmat, Torpedo, and Khimki. Currently, Balтика occupies fourth place in the RPL standings, seven points behind league leader Krasnodar.
Despite the recent suspension, Camozzi’s comments suggest a high regard for Talalaev’s coaching abilities. He previously described Talalaev as possessing qualities comparable to those of renowned Portuguese manager José Mourinho, according to Bombardir.ru. Talalaev previously served a three-game suspension earlier this season for displaying dissent towards match officials.
