LANDOVER, Md. – Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels sustained a significant left elbow injury during Sunday night’s 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, forcing him to leave the game in the fourth quarter. The injury casts a shadow over the Commanders’ season and raises questions about the remainder of Daniels’ debut NFL campaign.Daniels was sacked with 7 minutes, 39 seconds remaining while scrambling to his right at the Seattle 4-yard line. His left elbow bent awkwardly on the tackle, and he immediately signaled distress. He was afterward escorted to the locker room wearing a black air cast on his left arm. Washington coach Dan Quinn stated after the game he had no further details on the extent of the injury beyond it affecting Daniels’ left elbow.
The injury is the third of the season for Daniels, who previously missed two games with a sprained knee and one with a hamstring issue, with Marcus Mariota filling in at quarterback during those absences. Prior to exiting Sunday’s game,Daniels had completed 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and one interception, adding 51 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Commanders fell to 3-6 with the loss.
Daniels’ injury is particularly concerning given his status as the team’s franchise quarterback and the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had begun to show promising signs of growth in his first season, and his absence will undoubtedly impact washington’s offensive capabilities. The team will await further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and a potential timeline for his return.
