Jaguars’ Travis Hunter Undergoes Surgery, Out for Season with LCL Damage
Jacksonville Jaguars two-way star Travis Hunter will miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season after undergoing surgery to repair damage to his left lateral collateral ligament (LCL), the team announced today. The injury occurred during a practice while on defense, initially revealing an intact ACL on MRI, but further testing uncovered the LCL tear.
The loss of the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is a significant blow to the Jaguars’ playoff hopes and offensive momentum. Hunter, who was rapidly becoming the team’s No. 1 receiver, had been showcasing his playmaking ability with 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown in seven games. He also contributed on defense, recording 15 tackles and three pass breakups while playing 67% of offensive and 36% of defensive snaps.
Hunter’s injury prompted the Jaguars to acquire receiver Jakobi meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders on November 4th, addressing a receiving corps already depleted by injuries to Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle, Week 9) and Dyami Brown (shoulder). Meyers has appeared in one game for Jacksonville, recording three receptions for 41 yards in a 36-29 loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday.
the Jaguars invested heavily in Hunter, trading four draft picks – including a first-round selection in 2026 – to the Cleveland Browns to move up to the No. 2 overall spot in the 2024 draft and select him. Jacksonville also sent the Browns the No. 5 pick, a second-round pick, and a fourth-round selection in the 2025 draft, receiving fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2025 draft in return.
Hunter’s last game was his most productive as a professional, with eight catches for 104 yards and his first NFL touchdown during a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London in Week 7. Jacksonville will now look to Meyers and other receiving options as they prepare to host the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday.
