Israel Kills Top Iranian Commanders in Tehran Strike – Key Figures Targeted

Israel’s military announced it killed Esmail Ahmadi, the head of intelligence for Iran’s Basij paramilitary force, in an airstrike in Tehran. The strike occurred overnight on March 17, targeting a gathering of Basij commanders, according to a statement released by the Israel Defense Forces.

Ahmadi, the IDF stated, “played a central role in promoting and carrying out terrorist activities conducted by the Basij forces.” He was also tasked, on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with maintaining public order and the values of the regime.

The IDF also confirmed the death of Ali Mohammad Nani, a spokesperson for the IRGC, who was killed in the same Israeli-American strikes.

Since February 28, attacks attributed to the United States and Israel have resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian political and military figures, striking at the core of the Islamic Republic’s leadership structures.

Among those killed was Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader since 1989, who died at the age of 86 in an American-Israeli airstrike in Tehran on February 28. Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and a highly influential politician, was killed at age 67 in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike in the Pardis area of Tehran on March 17, along with his son and a deputy.

Ali Shamkhani, a close advisor to Khamenei and a key figure in shaping Iran’s security and nuclear policy, was also killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28. Mohammad Pakpour, the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – Iran’s most powerful military force – was killed in the February 28 strikes in Tehran.

Aziz Nasirzadeh, Iran’s defense minister and a career officer in the air force, was killed in the same wave of strikes targeting senior leadership in Tehran on February 28. Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, was also killed on February 28.
