Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024: Date Confirmed for Malaysia & Updates

Morocco’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced Thursday that Eid al-Fitr will begin on Friday, March 20, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon. The decision, confirmed after observations conducted by religious officials and units of the Royal Armed Forces, marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

The announcement means Ramadan lasted 29 days in Morocco this year. The Ministry stated that the crescent moon was sighted across the kingdom, solidifying the start date for the holiday.

The timing of Eid al-Fitr varies by location, dependent on the sighting of the moon. In Malaysia, the celebration is expected to occur on March 20, according to reports earlier this week.

Eid al-Fitr is a significant celebration for Muslims, marked by prayer, family gatherings, and traditional food. Streets in Moroccan cities typically become quieter in the morning as families prepare for the day’s festivities and mosques prepare to welcome large crowds for Eid prayers. The holiday is considered a beautiful time to experience Moroccan culture, with a special atmosphere prevailing in cities and villages.

Hespress English extended greetings to its readers on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, wishing a blessed holiday.
