Hamburg Airport Summer 2026: Tourism Boost for Northern Europe

Hamburg Airport will launch new routes to Amman, Stockholm, Oslo, Tallinn, Marrakech, Podgorica, Bodrum, and Hurghada as part of its expanded summer flight schedule, beginning March 29, 2026, and running through October 24, 2026.

The airport, officially known as Hamburg Airport Helmut Schmidt, is experiencing a surge in passenger traffic, consolidating its position as the 22nd busiest airport in Europe, according to recent traffic data. Approximately 14.8 million passengers traveled through the airport in both 2024 and 2025.

Royal Jordanian will begin intercontinental service to Amman, marking the arrival of a new airline at the airport. Norwegian will offer flights to Stockholm, while SAS resumes flights to Oslo. Air Baltic is adding Tallinn to its Baltic network. EasyJet is introducing a new route to Marrakech, and Wizz Air will fly to Podgorica. AJet will begin service to Bodrum, and Condor is restarting flights to Kalamata. Corendon Airlines will again offer flights to Hurghada, and TAP Air Portugal is expanding connections to Lisbon.

David Liebert, Head of Aviation at Hamburg Airport, stated that the expanded route network provides passengers with “an even wider range of flights connecting Hamburg with new and popular destinations.” He likewise highlighted the addition of Royal Jordanian, further diversifying the airport’s airline offerings.

The airport’s growth is driven by increased leisure and visiting friends and relatives travel, though business travel remains lower than pre-pandemic levels. Around 55 airlines will connect Hamburg Airport with approximately 120 direct destinations worldwide throughout the year.

Hamburg Airport is also focusing on sustainability and technology, with goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2035 and implementing innovations like hydrogen technology and biometric security measures.
