Canadiens‘ Gorton Impressed by xhekaj’s Advancement at Rookie Tournament
MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens Vice President of Hockey Operations Jeff gorton highlighted the progress of defenseman Florian Xhekaj following the conclusion of the team’s recent rookie tournament. While hesitant to single out one standout player, gorton revealed Xhekaj was top of mind due to significant physical gains.
Xhekaj, now listed at 220 pounds, has demonstrably added muscle to his frame, signaling a commitment to improvement that has excited the Canadiens’ management. Gorton emphasized Xhekaj’s dedication to taking “another step” in his development,expressing the institution’s enthusiasm for his progression.
“It’s certainly encouraging to see Flo come and take another step,” Gorton stated. “He’s added muscle. He’s put everything into making a jump. We’re thrilled with his progress.”
Beyond Xhekaj, Gorton also noted the strong performances of several other prospects during the tournament, including Adam Engstrom, David Reinbacher, Oliver Kapanen, Owen Beck, and Tyler Thorpe, who Gorton described as playing a “robust” game. The Canadiens are evaluating these players as potential contributors to the organization’s future.
