With just six days remaining until Opening Day, fantasy baseball strategists are intensifying their preparations, relying on expert analysis to gain a competitive edge. Frank Stampfl of CBS Sports has released his initial “Breakouts 1.0” list, identifying ten players poised for significant performance gains in the 2026 season, while simultaneously collaborating with Scott White and Chris Towers on comprehensive draft guides.
Stampfl’s approach distinguishes between “sleepers” – undervalued players based on Average Draft Position (ADP) – and “breakouts,” those expected to exceed expectations and potentially become league winners. He acknowledges a degree of “hive mind” with his colleagues, White and Towers, stemming from frequent collaboration and shared data analysis. The recommendations are based on January NFBC ADP data.
Leading Stampfl’s list is New York Yankees catcher Ben Rice, dubbed the “Cheat Code” for his impressive performance in 2025. Rice demonstrated improved bat speed and high exit velocities during spring training, earning a regular spot in the lineup despite an injury to Giancarlo Stanton. He finished the season with a .255 batting average, 26 home runs, and an .836 OPS, improving significantly over the final two months with a .298 average.
The collaborative effort between Stampfl, White, and Towers extends beyond breakout player identification. They have collectively produced position previews, rankings, salary cap values, and mock drafts, all compiled in a “Draft Day Cheat Sheet” designed to assist fantasy players. Additional resources include reviews of risers and fallers in Spring Training, ADP analysis, and prospect scouting reports.
Stampfl, White, and Towers recently discussed their draft strategies in a YouTube video, offering insights into players they are targeting and avoiding as draft weekend approaches. Stampfl also shared updates on his analysis via X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky, highlighting ongoing discussions about player valuations and draft preparation. A recap of the 2025 relief pitcher position, evaluating top performers, busts, and breakouts, was also recently completed by the trio.
The team’s comprehensive approach aims to provide fantasy players with the tools and information necessary to navigate the draft process effectively, acknowledging the significant time commitment required for thorough preparation. The “FBT Newsletter” serves as a central hub for these resources, consolidating their collective expertise in anticipation of the 2026 season.
