Eid al-Fitr 2026: Date, Celebrations & Morocco’s Announcement

Morocco will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Friday, March 20, 2026, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs announced Thursday evening, following the observation of the crescent moon.

The ministry confirmed the sighting of the fresh moon, marking the end of Ramadan, after sunset on Thursday, March 19th. Magistrates, regional delegates of Islamic affairs, and relevant authorities participated in the nationwide observation, as they do annually, according to a statement released by the ministry.

The decision to set the date of Eid al-Fitr is traditionally dependent on the actual observation of the crescent moon. If the crescent had not been observed Thursday evening, the month of Ramadan would have been completed to thirty days, and the celebration would have taken place on Saturday, March 21st.

This year’s announcement follows a period of observation that began after the Maghreb prayer on Thursday. The ministry centralizes results from observations across the country to make the official declaration.
