PSG Faces injury Concerns as Dembélé’s Hamstring Strain Draws Criticism
PARIS - Paris Saint-germain is grappling with a wave of injuries, headlined by concerns surrounding forward Ousmane Dembélé’s hamstring strain sustained during a recent match against Toulouse. Sources told ESPN the decision to play Dembélé in subsequent games despite the injury was ”ridiculous.”
The injuries come at a critical juncture for PSG, possibly sidelining Dembélé for key Champions League fixtures against Atalanta and Barcelona, as well as a trip to Bayer Leverkusen and numerous Ligue 1 matches, including the upcoming clash against Marseille.
Dembélé’s teammate, also unnamed, suffered a calf strain and is expected to be out for three to four weeks, according to ESPN sources. France manager Didier Deschamps defended his decision to play Dembélé, stating, “I was sure he was able to play a high-level game; otherwise, I wouldn’t have put him [in]. This time, the other thigh touched him [than against Toulouse]. I was fit. It is a pity for him, but he could have passed another player.” Deschamps added, ”I made the decision to play him for what I was thinking and because there was no problem.”
adding to PSG’s woes, manager Luis Enrique fractured his clavicle in a bicycle accident and underwent surgery Friday night. The 55-year-old Spanish coach is currently hospitalized.
