Butch Power, Waterford Labour Leader and Community Figure, Dies at 83
Waterford City is mourning the loss of Butch Power, a prominent figure in the local labor movement and a well-known personality in the Waterford Crystal community. mr.Power, formerly of Upper Yellow Road and a longtime resident of Cannon Street, Waterford, passed away on September 18th, 2025, at the age of 83.
A dedicated trade unionist, Mr.Power served as the ATGWU convenor at Waterford Crystal for many years, advocating for workers’ rights and playing a key role in the lives of countless families. Beyond his union work, he was also fondly remembered for his involvement with The Showboat, a popular local venue, and his commitment to the Waterford community. His passing marks the end of an era for many who knew and respected his tireless efforts.
mr. Power is predeceased by his brothers Willie and Eddie, and sisters Kathy and Maggie, along with other siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Betty, sons Nicky, Robbie, Gary, and Anthony, daughters Amanda, Jillian, and Tara, sons-in-law Niall, Peter, and Gerry, daughters-in-law lisa, Louise, Eimear, and michelle, and grandchildren Tommy, Sam, Bryan, Cady, Bobby, Lucy, Ted, Evan, Evie, and Maisie.He is also remembered by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
reposing at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Barrack St, Waterford on Sunday, September 21st, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with vigil prayers and Rosary at 4:30 pm.
Butch’s funeral cortege will walk from Thompson’s Funeral Home, Barrack Street, on Monday, September 22nd, to the Holy Family Church for Requiem Mass on arrival at 11:00 am, followed by burial in st. Otterans Cemetery.
