Candice Michelle, a professional wrestler currently signed with TNA Wrestling, has discussed her challenging beginnings in WWE and her recent transition to a backstage role with the promotion. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on March 19, 2026, Michelle detailed a period of self-directed training during her time in WWE’s “Divas” era, a period she characterized as lacking the structured development programs common in modern wrestling.
Michelle recounted feeling unprepared when she first entered the ring, stating, “I remember going out there and wrestling with not knowing how to wrestle.” She directly refuted suggestions that she had received substantial early training from established figures within the industry, asserting, “None of them trained me… I was trained by none of them.” Instead, Michelle emphasized her own initiative, supplementing limited opportunities with independent practice. She independently rented a wrestling ring to hone her skills and build confidence.
This self-reliance ultimately led to success, as Michelle went on to become the first Diva Search contestant to win the WWE Women’s Championship. Her experience offers a glimpse into the realities of the Divas era, where performers often had to quickly adapt to the demands of televised wrestling with limited formal training.
More recently, Michelle’s return to wrestling has taken a different form. She revealed that Tommy Dreamer, a veteran wrestler and personality within TNA, offered her a position as an agent with the promotion in January 2026. “Tommy Dreamer called me and he offered me a spot as an agent,” Michelle explained. The transition was swift, with Dreamer immediately involving her in backstage operations. “He was like, ‘Reach and shadow me the first weekend, and the next weekend you’ll be an agent,’” Michelle recalled. “I was like, ‘Huh what?’ But that is wrestling… throw them to the wolves and see if you survive.”
Michelle’s role as an agent marks her first consistent backstage position in years, following appearances at wrestling conventions and other industry events. While her initial assignment is focused on backstage duties, she indicated a potential openness to future in-ring appearances. “I think that this initial call was my hope spot, and I think it’s going to lead into my comeback,” Michelle stated.
At a WrestleCon appearance, Michelle discussed her desire to wrestle again with Dustin Rhodes, noting that the conversation stemmed from a fan suggestion. She relayed Rhodes’ response, “what? I don’t know if she really does,” suggesting some surprise at her renewed interest in competing. Michelle described feeling a renewed “itch” to wrestle, particularly after attending the WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony in December 2025.
