A British man has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend at a farmhouse in southwestern France, authorities have confirmed. George Goodayle, a former stripper with the Dreamboys dance troupe, is accused of fatally shooting Jayne Gregory, 49, on Monday morning.
Goodayle, 47, reportedly turned himself in to police in Confolens, approximately 15 miles from the scene of the shooting in Brillac, Charente. He initially claimed the shooting was accidental, attributing it to a hunting rifle, according to a statement from Angoulême’s Public Prosecutor’s office.
Police responding to the scene discovered Gregory’s body at “The Stables,” her farmhouse in the hamlet of Les Champs. Prosecutors confirmed she had sustained two ballistic wounds to her upper body. A Range Rover Evoque with UK registration was observed at the property, which has since been sealed off by police. A bouquet of pink flowers with a pink heart-shaped card was left at the doorstep.
Neighbors described Gregory as a well-liked member of the local English community, having moved to France approximately five years ago. She had reportedly invested significantly in renovating the farmhouse after purchasing it following the end of a previous relationship. “Jayne moved here a couple of years back, she spent time and money making it a home,” one neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, told local sources. “She was there on her own for a time, but her kids would come to see her.”
The couple had been dating since June 2025 and had briefly operated a bar, “The Pink Pony Hut,” at the farmhouse. However, the venture was short-lived due to a dispute with the local mayor regarding necessary permissions. Neighbors indicated that Goodayle had been living with Gregory, despite owning a property a few miles away.
Local bar staff in the nearby town of Oradour-Fanais described the couple as appearing “happy together” during occasional visits. “She was a incredibly attractive woman, she seemed to be very well liked,” said the bar owner. “We saw them in here a few times, they looked happy.”
Goodayle appeared before a judge on Wednesday and was formally indicted for spousal murder, subsequently being placed in pre-trial detention. A magistrate from the Angoulême prosecutor’s office and a medical examiner from the Poitiers Institute of Forensic Medicine were present at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
