Braun Strowman Hints at Hollywood Focus, Addresses Retirement Following WWE Release
LOS ANGELES, CA – Former WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman is exploring opportunities in Hollywood, potentially including a role as horror icon Jason Voorhees, following his release from WWE in 2023. While not definitively ruling out a return to professional wrestling, Strowman indicated a shift in career focus toward acting.
Strowman, whose real name is Adam Scherr, recently discussed his burgeoning acting career and potential future roles. He stated he would “gladly shave this beard off to play that character,” referring to Jason Voorhees. He further revealed ongoing discussions regarding the possibility, stating,”There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency. If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.”
His first role is in Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon, set to premiere in theaters on september 21, 2025.
Strowman’s departure from WWE stemmed from company-wide cost-cutting measures implemented by Chief Content Officer Triple H, according to a report from Fightful Select. The aim was to reduce the overall roster salary, leading to the release of several performers including Gigi Dolin, Cora Jade, Riley Osborne, and Eddy Thorpe, alongside Strowman.
During his time with WWE, Strowman held the WWE Universal Championship and competed in high-profile matches against stars like Bobby Lashley, Roman reigns, Gunther, and Brock Lesnar. He has described himself as “semi-retired” from wrestling, but has not closed the door on a potential return should opportunities align with his Hollywood ambitions.
