‘Discussed soon’-Barcelona Star Confirms Contract Talks Despite Slow Start
Barcelona midfielder Gavi anticipates contract negotiations will be finalized “soon,” despite a challenging start to the 2025-26 La Liga season for the defending champions. The 19-year-old has started all three of BarcelonaS matches this season, even as the team struggles to find its footing.
Barcelona’s campaign began with a controversial match against Mallorca, where they played against nine opponents. Subsequent results included a second-half comeback victory over Levante and a 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano, leaving them trailing Real Madrid-who have won their first three games-in the league standings. The situation is further complex by ongoing delays to the reopening of the Camp Nou, forcing Barcelona to host matches at the smaller Estadi Johan Cruyff, with a capacity of just 6,000.
“Last year we started worse,” Gavi said, referencing a 2-1 defeat to Monaco in their Champions League opener. “We’ve grown, we’re young and we’ve played all three games away.”
Gavi is hoping to continue in the starting lineup when Barcelona face Valencia this weekend, as his contract discussions progress. The confirmation of ongoing talks provides a point of stability for the club amid early-season turbulence.
