Argentina will host Mauritania in a friendly match at La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires on March 27, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced Friday. The fixture serves as a final preparation opportunity for Lionel Scaloni’s squad before the finalization of the roster for upcoming international competitions. The match was arranged following the cancellation of Argentina’s previously scheduled “Finalissima” against Spain, initially slated for March 27 in Qatar, due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Mauritania’s friendly against Palestine, which had been scheduled in Morocco, was also called off, creating the opportunity for the match in Buenos Aires. This friendly will be Argentina’s last home game before participating in the 2026 World Cup, according to reports. Scaloni will use the match to evaluate players ahead of finalizing his squad. A previously planned friendly against Guatemala on March 31 was not approved by FIFA due to scheduling conflicts. Argentina is expected to play two additional friendlies in early June as part of their preparations for the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The reigning World Cup champions will initiate their campaign on June 16 against Algeria, followed by matches against Austria and Jordan in the group stage. The AFA stated the match against Mauritania will serve as a farewell for the national team before they depart to defend their World Cup title. The game at La Bombonera is expected to provide fans with a final opportunity to spot the team play on home soil before the tournament.
