TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 15 Virginia women’s tennis team defeated Florida State 4-0 Friday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center, continuing the Cavaliers’ undefeated run in ACC play.
The Seminoles, now 4-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference, battled early, but ultimately succumbed to the strength of the Virginia lineup. A key doubles victory for Florida State came from the pairing of Cade Cricchio and Mary Boyce Deatherage, who defeated Meggie Navarro and Isabelle Lacy 6-2 on Court 3. This marked their team-leading eighth doubles win and improved their ACC record to 4-1.
Despite the success of Cricchio and Deatherage, Virginia secured the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 2. The Cavaliers carried that momentum into singles play, quickly gaining ground. Katie Rolls of Virginia defeated Tina Li 6-3, 6-0 on Court 3, and Isabelle Lacy followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Laura Putz on Court 4. Blanca Pico Navarro clinched the match for Virginia with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Cade Cricchio on Court 6.
Several matches remained unfinished when Virginia reached the decisive four points. Eva Shaw was leading 6-1, 5-7, 1-1 against No. 81 Vivian Yang on Court 1, while Mary Boyce Deatherage had taken the first set 6-4 against No. 32 Annabelle Xu on Court 2 but trailed 4-5 in the second. Abby Kelliher, facing her first ranked opponent of the season in No. 106 Martina Genis Salas, had won the first set 6-2, lost the second 3-6, and was leading 4-2 in the third when the match concluded, according to Florida State Athletics.
The Seminoles will remain at home and host Virginia Tech on Sunday in their annual Paint It Pink match. First serve is scheduled for noon, and admission is free. Live stats and video will be available on seminoles.com.
