A collision between a minibus and a tractor on Kaunas’ Western Bypass resulted in two injuries Friday evening, according to reports from local authorities.
Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat received notification of the incident at 8:40 PM local time, a duty officer confirmed to the “Kas vyksta Kaune” news portal. The crash involved an Iveco minibus driven by a 42-year-old man (born 1981) and a tractor operated by a 35-year-old man (born 1988). Both drivers registered negative results for alcohol consumption.
The tractor driver and his passenger, a 42-year-old man (born 1981), sustained injuries and were transported to a medical facility for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.
Witnesses reported a significant scene, with numerous emergency services personnel responding. “Just now a big accident, on the other side of ‘Depo’ near ‘Mega’. Looks like an overturned tractor,” one eyewitness wrote to “Kas vyksta Kaune” at approximately 8:45 PM. Another reported potential traffic disruptions, stating they were redirected through the city.
Images from the scene show the tractor on its side and the minibus with substantial damage. Police, firefighters, and medical teams were present, managing the situation and clearing the area.
As of 9:00 PM, traffic flow on the Western Bypass was described as hampered but moving, with police regulating traffic. Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes or prepare for delays.
Earlier Friday, a separate multi-vehicle collision occurred on A1 highway near Biruliškės. Initial reports suggested six vehicles were involved, but police later clarified that five vehicles were impacted. The A1 highway was temporarily closed, reopening at 7:05 PM. A 2006-born driver of a Volvo, along with three passengers, were hospitalized following that incident. The other vehicles involved were a Toyota driven by a 2002-born individual, a VW driven by a 1978-born man, a BMW driven by a 1996-born woman, and a Chrysler driven by a 1992-born man.
