A 37-year-aged Bulgarian man is on trial in Frankfurt, Germany, accused of murdering a man and attempting to murder a woman in a stabbing attack last July, according to an indictment filed earlier this month.
The Frankfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges on March 19, 2026, alleging that the suspect attacked his estranged wife and her 46-year-old partner on July 2, 2025, in the Bonames district of Frankfurt. Prosecutors claim the attack was motivated by jealousy.
Investigators say the suspect allegedly ambushed his wife at her apartment, waiting for her and her partner to exit before launching the attack with a knife. The 46-year-old man died at the scene from multiple stab wounds. The woman sustained several injuries and managed to escape to a neighbor’s apartment and call for help, according to police reports from July 2, 2025.
The suspect had been subject to a court-ordered restraining order under Germany’s protection against violence laws at the time of the attack. An electronic monitoring program, implemented following previous incidents of domestic violence, had recently expired just days before the stabbing, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The indictment also includes charges related to previous alleged offenses, including accusations of rape and assault, including against a child.
Police arrested the suspect shortly after the attack. He remains in custody. The Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main will now determine whether to admit the charges and open formal proceedings.
News reports from July 2, 2025, detail the swift response of police and emergency services to the scene on Friedrich-Stampfer-Straße. Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation, the 46-year-old victim could not be saved. The injured woman was treated at a hospital for her wounds.
The Frankfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office stated the suspect acted with “low motives” and out of jealousy. The investigation revealed the suspect had armed himself with a knife before going to his former residence.
