A california couple is facing murder and torture charges in the death of their 14-month-old daughter,authorities announced Nov. 24. Alfredo and Kelly Muñoz were arrested following a joint inquiry by homicide and child abuse detectives, alongside the Department of Children and Family Services.
The case underscores the critical importance of child protection and has prompted a commitment from the District attorneys Office to pursue maximum penalties. The Muñozes are accused of inflicting ongoing abuse upon the child, ultimately leading to her death. If convicted, thay each could receive a sentence ranging from 32 years to life in state prison, a result reflecting the severity of the alleged crimes and the vulnerability of the victim.
According to detectives, the 14-month-old girl endured sustained abuse at the hands of her father and stepmother. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed one count each of murder, torture, and assault on a child causing death against both Alfredo and Kelly Muñoz.
“The tragic death of this little girl is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacred responsibility we all share to protect our children from harm,” stated D.A. Nathan Hochman. “Our Office is committed to seeking justice for Tilly and ensuring those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Bail for each defendant has been set at $3.03 million, according to the DA’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare to move forward with the case.
