Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred to a federal prison facility to begin serving his 50-month sentence stemming from sex trafficking and racketeering charges, according to recent court filings. The move follows a conviction in July after an eight-week trial, though Combs was acquitted of the most serious sex trafficking and racketeering allegations.
The case against the music mogul centers on convictions for two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution. While Combs has already served approximately 14 months, his ultimate time served remains uncertain due to potential eligibility for sentence reductions. the Bureau of Prisons initially projected a release date of May 8, 2028, though that is subject to change.
Combs’ legal team is pursuing an appeal to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing that prosecutors improperly applied the Mann Act-a statute historically used to combat interstate prostitution-to his case.Attorney Shapiro stated, “Sean’s appeal will challenge the unfair use of the Mann Act, an infamous statute with a sordid history, to prosecute him for sex with consenting adults.”
The defense contends the convictions are unwarranted because Combs lacked financial motivation for transporting male escorts, alleging he sought only to observe encounters with his girlfriends. This argument challenges the core premise of the prosecution’s case, which asserted Combs profited from the exploitation of others.
