Oasis guitarist Paul “bonehead” arthurs has announced he will miss upcoming concerts in Asia and Australia as he undergoes treatment for prostate cancer, diagnosed earlier this year. The 60-year-old founding member of the band will not perform at shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Arthurs shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he is responding well to initial treatment and is now moving to a second phase of care. “Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer,” he stated. “The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which meant I could be part of this remarkable tour. now, I am having to take a planned break for the next phase of my care, so I’ll be missing the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m really sad to be missing these shows but I’m feeling good and will be back ready to go in time for South America.”
The affected dates are Seoul (October 21), Tokyo (October 25-26), Melbourne (October 31, November 1 and 4), and Sydney (November 7-8). Arthurs anticipates rejoining the tour for the South American leg in November.
This is not the first time Arthurs has faced a cancer diagnosis; in 2022, he revealed he was being treated for tonsil cancer, stating at the time, “Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s treatable and I will be starting a course of treatment soon. I will keep you posted how it is indeed going.”
Arthurs was a member of the band the Rain with Liam gallagher in the early 1990s before Noel Gallagher joined and the band became Oasis. He played on three of Oasis’s most successful albums – Definitely Maybe, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and standing on the Shoulder of Giants – before departing during the recording of the latter in 1999.
Following his time with Oasis, Arthurs joined Liam Gallagher’s band beady Eye from 2013-2014 and has frequently performed with Gallagher during his solo career, including at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021. He also formed the group Parlour Flames and worked as a radio DJ.
