Australian sprinter Gout Gout has declared competing in the Olympic Games is his destiny, fueled by ambitions to become the first Australian to break the 20-second barrier in the 200m. The athlete shared his aspirations ahead of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, viewing personal bests and advancing through each round of competition as notable milestones toward his ultimate goal.
Gout’s focus on achieving a sub-20 second time isn’t merely a performance target; it represents entry into an elite global tier. He believes running under 20 seconds signifies a place among the top 15-20 sprinters worldwide, and a springboard to even faster times-potentially into the 19-second range-necessary for Olympic contention. The World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled to begin september 15,2025,will be a crucial proving ground for Gout as he pursues his Olympic dream.
“I definitely think PB,nonetheless of where I come,is definitely a big success,” Gout stated. “Hopefully if I can make it at the semi, that’s even greater and if I make it into the final, that’s a big success.PB is definitely a big goal for me and then just going through the rounds will be big step after big step.”
He added, “Being able to run under 20 seconds is a great achievement and just when you get under that 20 seconds, you know you can achieve more as running 19 seconds you know you’re up there without a doubt.” Gout emphasized the historical significance of potentially being the first Australian to achieve the sub-20 second mark, stating, “It’s definitely something I think about all the time.”
