Żużel: President of Włókniarz Częstochowa Michał Świącik: We did everything for the fans

– First of all, I would like to apologize to the fans for what happened on Friday. This week we decided to do some thorough work on the track, because everyone saw that there was practically no racing in the last matches. We had to change something, first of all for the fans, but also for the players, because most of our team has achieved better results in away matches. We could not have predicted that on Tuesday such a heavy downpour would pass over the city, because on the same day the forecasts forecasted only 4 mm of rainfall. Eventually, more than 50 mm of water fell on the track. Despite the great bad luck, we did not wring our hands and started to work hard and until Friday we hoped that it would all be fixed – comments Michał Świącik, Włókniarz’s skipper.

The inhabitants of Częstochowa cannot be denied their ambition, because after the downpour, the latest generation equipment was brought to the track, and the former torom master Andrzej Pulczyński was also involved in the work. All employees spent their days on the track to avoid problems.

– For this reason, I am surprised by the accusations of deliberate action. We wouldn’t even think to intentionally try to play a match on a different date. On Friday, security, catering facilities, etc. appeared at the stadium, because we believed that the game would be played. However, I knew it would be difficult, so on Thursday I sent a letter to PGE Ekstraliga asking them to postpone the match. However, we did not get permission for this, so we did everything to play the game – comments Świącik.

The inhabitants of Częstochowa did not start work on the track earlier than on Monday, because the competition in the 250 cc class was impossible to start earlier. Everyone thought, however, that three days would be enough, so the training for the whole team was scheduled for Thursday. Ultimately, however, the classes did not take place.

On the occasion of the match, the Gorzów players accused the hosts that the rainfall was probably not that big, since the turf and the ground beneath it are completely dry. To gather convincing evidence, they even made a hole in the turf and showed the dried ground. Only a few meters away was the muddy surface of the track.

– I am saddened by the behavior of Gorzów players, because not so long ago we could apply for a forfeit for a match interrupted at their stadium by a switchboard fire. Then, however, we acted in accordance with the spirit of the sport, and in return we received a screwdriver rummaging through the compact material in an inactive sewer. It is not fair – he adds.

The problem of the club’s authorities is now not only the threat of a walkover, but also the situation with Marek Cieślak. The coach on Friday morning resigned because, as he explained for Przegląd Sportowy, he could not take responsibility for the track, which he did not prepare. In his opinion, full responsibility for the preparation of the surface rests with the president and the trackmaster.

– Out of respect for the coach, I will not refer to his words. I can only say that he was aware of the necessity of changes and, although he was not sympathetic to them, he accepted them. So I was very surprised by his words – adds Świącik at the end.

The League Adjudication Committee will now deal with the canceled match.
