The video conference app Zoom transmits user data to Facebook when used. The users are not informed about the data transfer.
Communication solutions such as teams, Slack or Zoom are particularly popular in the current home office times. According to one report However, the technology platform “Motherboard” does not take data protection too seriously with the Zoom video conference solution. For example, the iOS app should transmit data to Facebook, even if the user in question does not have an account. According to the report, Facebook is informed every time the app is opened. For this purpose, information about the hardware of the user, such as the model identifier, the time zone, the location or the provider used should also be transmitted. However, Zoom’s data protection declaration does not contain any indications of data being passed on to the social media giants.
Zoom already made negative headlines last summer. A vulnerability in the Mac version of the video solution allowed potential attackers to activate the computer’s webcam undetected (“Swiss IT Magazine” reported).
