Zombies in de ‘Last Train to New York’!

It was a monster hit a few years ago. In 2016 the South Korean film . was released Train to Busan. The general public and film critics unanimously agreed: this was a GOOD zombie horror film. We’ve been bludgeoned with the number of (not-always-great) zombie movies in recent years, but this movie felt fresh, innovative, and was very effective. A sequel soon appeared as well: Peninsula (2020). And of course an American remake of a successful non-English language film can’t be left behind… That’s exactly what we’re going to get with Last Train to New York.

Indonesian director Timo Tjahjanto will film the remake. He is best known for V/H/S/2 on V/H/S/94 (2013 and 2021). New Line is the studio developing the film and none other than horror genius James Wan is producing the remake. He is known for several huge horror projects over the last two decades, such as Saw, Insidious on The Conjuring. Exact details about what the American remake is about and who will play the lead roles are not yet known.

However, many people are not very happy with the remake… A lot of criticism is mainly expressed on the fact that again a non-English film must be made accessible to the English-speaking public. There would be no reason for a remake according to many. Tjahjanto and Wan don’t worry about it though Last Train to New York. Tjahjanto sent this message on Twitter earlier this year:

If we can trust anyone in the horror world, it might be James Wan. So we might have to wait until we see the first images of Last Train to New York before we judge (although, for me personally, the remake has to be really good and innovative to have a ‘right to exist’ next to the original) – Let’s see!

What do you think? Do you like the remake of Train to Busan?
