Zoetermeers Dagblad | 65 corona deaths reported, highest in nearly 9 months

The number of deaths from the coronavirus continues to rise. Between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 65 reports that a corona patient had died as a result of the virus. That’s the highest number since March 2, nearly nine months ago.

In the past seven days, RIVM registered the death of 367 corona patients. That amounts to an average of 52 reports per day, the highest level since February 24. The death rate has roughly doubled in the past two weeks.

The number of positive tests remains the same. In the past day, 22,199 infections have been confirmed. It is the fifteenth day in a row with more than 20,000 new cases. That does not mean that the actual number of infections will remain the same, because the GGDs cannot test many more people than they already do. It is therefore possible that there are more people who have the corona virus, but that it is no longer possible to find all infections.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2.6 million positive tests have been registered in the Netherlands. More than 19,000 people are certain that they have died from the virus. At the current rate, the number of corona deaths will exceed 20,000 in December. The actual numbers are higher.
