‘Zemlika’ festival will take place in Durbe over the weekend

A music, art and local harvest festival is expected on the weekend of October 16 and 17 in Durbe “Zemlika“, the portal” Delfi “informs the festival organizers.

This year, the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary and, according to the organizers, after long maneuvers, reflection and risk awareness, it will take place.

“It will be the ninth and a half – different than originally planned. Most of the events will be free, due to indoor restrictions, concerts will also take place in the urban environment. This year the festival will consistently and perhaps even more powerfully represent several of the arts – music, theater, “There will also be a traditional market for farmers’, craftsmen ‘s and honest and environmentally friendly processors’ products,” said the organizers.

On Friday, October 16, at 5 pm, the festival will begin with the opening of an exhibition of works by Latvian artists Katrīna Neiburga, Līga Spunde and Evita Goze, represented at this year’s Survival Kit festival.

The evening will be followed by both the Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF) screenings of films selected by creative director Sonora Broka “Zemlikai”, both Gertrudes Street Theater (GIT) guest performance “Firewood Roads” and concerts of the group “Recently” and the Canadian “bedroom pop prince” Sean Nicholas Savage in the shop “Tev… “in the yard (29 Raina Street).

Saturday, October 17, will begin with the traditional “Zemlikas” market in the square near Durbe Lutheran Church. The day will be followed by the second guest performance of the GIT “Bailu Routine”, music morned by Ambassador Stir Chiweshe from Zimbabwe, contemporary folk music duo “Duo Ruut” from Estonia, as well as a joint project of Karl Kazak and Kaspar Toby.

In the evening, six concerts in Durbe Lutheran Church and Durbe Culture House are expected in the continuation of the festival, to which the most reliable supporters of the festival were invited to buy tickets and they have already been sold. Meanwhile, in the urban environment – on a viewing platform by the Swan Pond and in the apple orchard opposite the bar “Akacis” – several free concerts of Latvian musicians are expected. The music will be performed by the association “Alejas”, the duo “Āres” from Vecsalaca and the electronic music producer Kashuks, who has become the young Durbeni.

Also on the second day of the festival, an exhibition of visual arts will be shown, free film screenings will take place, as well as the second guest performance of the Gertrudes Street Theater – choreographer Jana Jacuka’s solo work “Fear Routine”.

The organizers call on the visitors to be responsible for themselves and others, to assess their health before attending the event, as well as to observe the national hygiene and distance requirements to limit the spread of “Covid-19”. Visitors are also invited to treat possible changes in the festival.
