ArcelorMittal launches the Steel Billion Program, which will invest almost $ 1 billion in the eco-modernization of its steel production in Kryvyi Rih.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the chairman of the board of directors of ArcelorMittal Lakshmi Mittal, who is launching a program of billions of dollars in investments in the country. This was announced on Wednesday, April 14, by the press service of the President’s Office.
It is noted that the company, as the largest foreign investor in Ukraine and one of the largest steel producers in the world, will start an investment program in the country. Steel billion, which provides for an investment of almost one billion dollars in the eco-modernization of steel production in Kryvyi Rih.
For his part, Zelenskiy promised full support.
The parties also discussed the development of “green” metallurgy and increased investment in Ukraine, taking into account environmental characteristics in accordance with international standards.
The President noted the need to introduce the latest steelmaking technologies that will reduce the negative impact of industry on the environment.
“The President noted the need to complete the modernization of the coke-chemical, sintering and blast-furnace production as soon as possible, which are the largest pollutants. The company confirmed its readiness to complete this program by the end of 2023,” the statement said.
The meeting was also attended by First Assistant to the President Sergey Shefir, Deputy Heads of the Office of the Head of State Igor Zhovkva and Yulia Sviridenko, Director of Helios JSC Rostislav Shurma, General Director of ArcelorMittal CIS Vijay Goyal, General Director of JSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih Mauro Longobardi.
