Jakarta

President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky issued an executive order to fire the head of the domestic security agency and the attorney general. This dismissal was carried out because it was revealed that there was cooperation with Russia.

Reported by Reuters, Monday (18/7/2022) the order to dismiss the head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov and the Attorney General Iryna Venediktova was published on the official website of the president.

Ivan Bakanov is known to be a childhood friend of Zelensky. Meanwhile, Iryna Venediktova, is the person who is leading the effort to prosecute Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine.

Meanwhile in a separate Telegram post, Zelensky said he had fired the high-ranking official because many cases came to light from members of their agency cooperating with Russia.

He said 651 cases of treason and collaboration had been opened against prosecutors and law enforcement officials. In addition more than 60 officials from the Bakanov and Venediktova agencies are now working against Ukraine in Russian-occupied territories.

“Such a series of crimes against the foundations of the country’s national security … raises very serious questions for the relevant leaders,” Zelensky said.

“Each of these questions will have the right answer,” he said.

In addition, in a separate executive order which was also published on the president’s website, it was stated that Zelensky appointed Oleksiy Symonenko as the new Attorney General.
