ZDF sports reporter Eberhard Figgemeier dies | WEB.DE

The well-known ZDF sports reporter Eberhard Figgemeier died on Sunday at the age of 73. The broadcaster said. Figgemeier was one of the second best-known sports journalists, mainly commenting on football, tennis and figure skating. As program director, he was also instrumental in the production of the Olympic Games between 1996 and 2008. In the meantime he also worked as head of the “Current Sports Studio”.

Figgemeier saw “the hand of God”

Born in Bochum, he recognized Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” at the 1986 World Cup. And he was there when the ice dancers Jayne Torvill / Christopher Dean ran their world-famous bolero freestyle at the 1984 Winter Games in Sarajevo. As program director, he played a key role in the design of the Summer and Winter Olympics between 1996 and 2008. “Eberhard was a straightforward, open and very valued colleague.
