Zandvoort new source of fire for corona: 52 percent more infections

The seaside resort of Zandvoort is becoming a new source of fire for the corona virus. Between Monday 10 and Monday 17 August, 24 new cases were discovered there, an increase of 52 percent. This makes Zandvoort one of the fastest climbers in the municipal figures of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). The cause of this is not clear.

In Delfzijl, fifteen new cases came to light in the past week, an increase of 75 percent, due to an outbreak at the local asylum seekers’ center. The virus had so far largely ignored Delfzijl.

Bergen op Zoom has been a major source of fire in recent weeks, but the virus is spreading less and less quickly. Only a few cases have been identified in recent days. Mayor Frank Petter concludes that the stricter measures that the Brabant town introduced last week are working out positively.

In about 60 municipalities, no new corona cases were diagnosed in the past week. Below this are Assen, Baarn and Enkhuizen.
