Minister Lawal Launches Committees to Strengthen Accreditation, Special Duties

ABUJA – Minister of Education Tahir Mamman Lawal inaugurated Accreditation ​and Special Duties Subcommittees on October 24, 2025, tasking them with bolstering quality ⁢assurance‌ and⁢ efficient service delivery within‌ the Federal‌ Ministry of Education. The move signals a renewed ‌focus on maintaining educational standards and streamlining​ critical operational functions.

The newly formed committees are expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of accreditation processes for ‌educational institutions⁣ nationwide, while the⁣ Special Duties Subcommittee ​will ⁢concentrate on optimizing the execution of key ministry initiatives.​ This initiative directly ⁤impacts students, educators, and the‍ overall credibility of Nigeria’s education system, with outcomes potentially influencing future funding allocations and international recognition. The committees will report directly⁣ to the Minister,‌ providing regular updates and recommendations for improvement.

Lawal emphasized the ⁤importance of the Accreditation Subcommittee ⁣in upholding the quality of education, stating, “Accreditation is the‍ bedrock of a credible education system. These committees must ensure that our institutions meet and exceed established standards.” He further ‍charged the Special Duties ‍Subcommittee with enhancing the ​effectiveness of ministry programs, stressing the need‌ for accountability and timely completion⁢ of projects.

The​ Accreditation Subcommittee is chaired by Professor Abubakar Rasheed, former executive Secretary​ of the National Universities Commission (NUC), bringing ⁤extensive ⁢experience to the role.The ⁤Special duties Subcommittee will be lead by mr. David Adejo, the Permanent ⁣Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education. Both subcommittees comprise ‍representatives from various departments within the ministry and relevant educational agencies.
