Yuri Podladtchikov: the body no longer follows

Olympic half-pipe champion Yuri Podladtchikov is retiring. At 31, the Zurich player with three world medals has his body tired from too many injuries.

‘I-Pod’ has marked Swiss snowboarding history for more than a decade, but has recently had to deal with repeated injuries. Podladtchikov had his greatest success in 2014 in his parents’ country, when he was crowned Olympic halfpipe champion in Sochi. While he started his career under the Russian flag, Podladtchikov won three World Championships medals for Switzerland (1x gold, 2x silver), seven X-Games medals and was on the podium 14 times in the World Cup. .

The last years of his career were marked by injuries and health problems. Podladtchikov has only competed in six competitions since tearing his cruciate ligament at the 2017 World Championships in Sierra Nevada. His body never fully recovered from his last serious fall at the World Championships in Park City when he tore his Achilles tendon in training.
