He loved his Volvo, liked to drink schnapps – and had a thing for thin ice. This has now become Tor “Apetor” Eckhoff’s undoing: The Norwegian YouTuber broke into the ice while shooting a new video on a frozen lake and died.
Various Norwegian media reported about the accident, including the online portal “VG“. Accordingly, the accident happened on Friday near Kongsberg. Witnesses heard calls for help and called the emergency services, writes “VG”.
He is said to have called his girlfriend shortly beforehand and raved about the “perfect conditions”.
Divers could have pulled the victim out of the water; but he died a day later with his family.
Again and again Eckhoff had dared to skate on not sufficiently thick ice surfaces for his YouTube stunts. Several of his videos are therefore entitled “On thin ice” (German: on thin ice).
The clips show how Eckhoff deliberately drives onto the dangerously thin layer of ice and then collapses.
