The biggest update is a new gesture to enable or disable full screen video mode.

Instead of tapping a button or rotating the phone, users can now swipe up on the video window for full screen mode. And swipe down to return to the standard player page.
Reporting from The Verge, Thursday (29/10/2020), this gesture will only function when the user swipes in the playback window, so there’s no need to worry if you don’t want to use this gesture.
Changes have also been made to the autoplay button on YouTube, which is made parallel to the close caption button, making it easier for users to access. There is also a Video Chapters feature which previously only existed on the desktop version, now available for the mobile application version.
Navigation improvements were also made to support the virtual reality video viewing experience on YouTube.
Through this new feature, users will be given a message to rotate the device if the video displayed is virtual reality content.
