Jakarta,Indonesia – indonesian Minister of Migrant Worker Protection,Mukhtarudin,is calling on teh nation’s youth to become key partners in safeguarding the rights and well-being of indonesian migrant workers. the Minister emphasized that effective migrant worker protection requires broad collaboration, extending beyond government agencies to include youth organizations and local communities.
Mukhtarudin made the appeal following a meeting with representatives from the Cipayung Plus youth alliance in Jakarta on Thursday, September 18th. “Youth are strategic partners,” he stated. “We must build an ecosystem that not only protects migrant workers, but also upholds their dignity and brings real benefits to their hometowns.”
the call for youth involvement comes as Indonesia seeks to improve its migrant worker governance and ensure programs effectively reach regional levels. Restu Ronggo Wicaksono, Chairperson of the Islamic Students’ Association (HMI) central Kalimantan Coordination Board, expressed pride in Mukhtarudin’s appointment – a local son now serving in the national cabinet – and stressed the need for concrete action.
“Youth must be seen as subjects of development, not merely objects,” Wicaksono said. “we are ready to serve as strategic partners in ensuring the ministry’s programs reach regional levels.”
Wicaksono highlighted the potential for youth to contribute to outreach efforts in regions like Central Kalimantan and to explore local economic opportunities linked to the migrant worker sector, aligning with the government’s broader vision for human resource development. This initiative builds on a growing recognition of the vital role youth play in national progress, as previously noted by other officials who have emphasized youth as key to building a “golden generation.”
