Your disappearance is a mystery – you need to know THAT about the investigations of the Berlin police, the brother-in-law and witness statements

It was February 18, 2019 that the life of the Reusch family changed forever. Her daughter, then 15-year-old Rebecca, did not show up to school after spending the night with her sister Jessica and her husband Florian. In a three-part true crime documentary that RTL will show from Thursday, the family of the missing has a say and gives insights into their mental life that have never been shown. But what about the Rebecca case overall, because the police are still groping in the dark.

Missing Rebecca: what do we know about her disappearance?

Even now, almost three years after the girl’s disappearance, there is no real lead in the case of the missing Rebecca. Her last signs of life were a Snapchat picture that she is said to have sent her friend via the Snapchat app on the early morning of February 18th. In addition, her sister Jessica said she saw Rebecca before she left the house around 7 a.m.

Even when Rebecca’s mother Brigitte Reusch tried to reach her daughter by phone at 7.15 a.m. only the mailbox answered. It was the same with another attempt at 8.25 a.m. When she called her son-in-law Florian, he pushed her away before he called her back. When the mother reached him, he told her that Rebecca was no longer in the house.

Missing Rebecca: The police have their brother-in-law Florian in their sights

That is not the only reason why Rebecca’s brother-in-law Florian was quickly considered the main suspect by the investigators. The police were able to prove that he had been browsing the Internet in the early morning of February 18, even though he said he was asleep. When his car was then detected by the license plate recognition systems in Brandenburg, as he was on the A12 in the morning of February 18 and on the evening of February 19 in the direction of Frankfurt (Oder), he finally moved into the Focus.

Florian was arrested twice by the police. However, as far as the public knows, he did not comment on the reason for driving in the direction of Frankfurt. Rebecca’s father Bernd Reusch even took his son-in-law under protection, claiming to the media that the journeys towards the Polish border had to do with something else, but that he was not allowed to disclose.

In addition to the license plate detection system, a witness also stated that he had seen a raspberry-red Renault Twingo like the one Florian and Jessica had owned in a wooded area near Kummersdorf. The forest was searched, but Rebecca was not found. For lack of evidence, Florian was released after both arrests.

This was well received by Rebecca’s family, because unlike the police, the Reusch family is convinced of Florian’s innocence. While the police assume that Rebacca was no longer alive, there are other voices – and these believe the family is more likely.

There was evidence of an Internet acquaintance of Rebecca by the name of Max, a boy her age. It was believed that this boy had met with Rebecca on February 18. The police followed up on the suspicion, but were able to expel the boy.

Witnesses also claim to have seen Rebecca on the morning of February 18 at a bus stop near the house of her sister and brother-in-law. So far, however, the police have largely been able to rule out that it was actually Rebecca. The investigators viewed the recordings from several bus cameras and also the surveillance images of a bakery that has the bus stop in view. There was no sign of Rebeca.

The credibility of a testimony according to which a neighbor with a purple blanket, who had disappeared from Florian and Jessica’s house with Rebecca, on the morning of February 18, 2019, said she was surprised because there was a lot to picnic was too wet could also be ruled out because, according to meteorologists, it was dry that day.

Other witnesses claim to have seen Rebecca again and again after her disappearance. She is said to have appeared in Krakow on April 4, 2019. That could not be confirmed.

All these beginnings led the investigators time and again to Rebecca’s brother-in-law Florian, who is still considered the main suspect by the police. His cell phone was recently confiscated. But the Reusch family sticks to him – and firmly believes that their “Becci” is still alive.
