Youp van ‘t Hek is proud of the English language Flappycover by Todd Rundgren, but hopes for a share of the proceeds if the number would become a hit, the comedian says de Volkskrant.

The copyright organization Buma / Stemra stands up for the comedian. “Youp is entitled to compensation if a song he has written is used abroad. Permission has not been requested for the translation. The income should go to us through our American colleagues so that we can distribute to Youp.”
Van ‘t Hek was surprised by the cover of the American singer-songwriter on Wednesday, he says in a conversation with NU.nl. “I got it this morning and thought it was very funny. The song is forty years old and he translated it very literally. I am just as amazed as everyone else.”
Flappy, a song about the fatal disappearance of a rabbit the day before Christmas, Van ‘t Hek wrote for his sister in 1977. After that, the artist also included the song in his own repertoire.
