Young woman to UNN after rescue operation in Salangen

A rescue operation was initiated after a person was reported missing in the Salangselva at 21 o’clock on Sunday evening.

At 21.53, police report that the person is located and is being picked up and transported to UNN by air ambulance.

– We were notified at 20.50 that a person was missing in the river. There were two people on a float in the river. The floating animal overturned and both fell into the river. One of them got on land, got up to a nearby building and asked for help. The other one was then missing, Eirik Kileng, operations manager at the Troms police district, told the Northern Lights.

Air ambulance with divers from Tromsø, as well as air ambulance from Evenes moved out. Shortly after arriving, they found a woman in her 20s in the river.

Press officer at UNN, Solveig Jacobsen, states that the injured person is a woman in her 20s and that she arrived at the hospital at 22.30.

– She was found on the bottom of the Kistefossen waterfall, and seems to have been taken down by the river as it is stiff and large now. First aid was implemented on site. She will be flown to UNN, says Kileng.

The person who came ashore on his own should not be hurt, but in shock.

The Salang river flows from Bones in Bardu and out into the sea in Sjøvegan in Salangen.

The rescue operation took place about ten kilometers upstream from the estuary on Sjøvegan.

The case is being updated.
