Young people are going to the new ‘Minions’ film en masse in suit and tie, but they are not welcome in all cinemas

The trend to wear a suit to the cinema has come over from the social network TikTok. There, under the hashtag #gentleminions, plenty of videos are posted of the stylish cinema visit that more and more young people are opting for these days. In those films you can see how they dress up for their outing, how they go to the cinema together and how they loudly encourage their heroes during the film.

But not everyone is a fanatic Minion fan. Several British cinema owners let the British public broadcaster BBC know that they are inundated with complaints. For the often young children who come to watch the Minion film, the yelling of the youngsters leads to crying fits. And older viewers can’t follow the film because of the noise. A lot of visitors come to demand their money back at the counter afterwards.

That is why more and more British cinemas are no longer allowing young people in suits to enter. In certain extreme cases, even wearing a white shirt was enough to be shown the door. The only cinema on the Channel Island of Guersney even withdrew the film from its schedule after young people not only turned things upside down, but also committed vandalism and were rude to the staff.

Not all reactions are negative, though. Some cinemagoers think that the enthusiasm of the youngsters provides an extra experience. Film company Universal Pictures has also responded to the hype. “To everyone who shows up at Minions in suits, we see you and we love you,” it said on Twitter.
