The events for which he is accused occurred on July 15, when Philippe Verreault was violently struck by Levasseur’s vehicle on 1st Avenue, in Stoneham.

The victim had just left the Microbrasserie La Souche where he had celebrated his birthday.

Conditions

The accused was also injured in the accident and it was from the infirmary that he appeared on Monday. The Crown and the defense agreed on conditions of release.

François Levasseur will have to comply with a curfew that he can only break if he has medical follow-ups.

The accused must still receive medical treatment following the accident. He is therefore forbidden to go to La Souche, where he worked and was in the hours preceding the tragedy.

He is allowed to live at two addresses, in Stoneham, his main address, but also in Amqui.

In order to secure his conditions of release, the accused’s father agreed to guarantee a sum of $ 25,000 without deposit while François Levasseur will have to deposit $ 5,000.

He is also prohibited from coming into contact with four of the victim’s friends and from consuming alcohol or drugs. The victim and the accused knew each other.

Antecedents

The young man has a history of impaired driving in 2016, in addition to being arrested for drunkenness on the public highway and swearing at a peace officer a month before the accident. He will return to court in October.
