These lipid particles are known as EVs or extracellular vesicles and as these particles are released from the cell, they also carry proteins attached to the cell surface. This includes proteins that the virus binds to enter cells, such as ACE2 that the SARS-CoV2 virus binds to, as well as in EVs, so the body makes EVs as a natural defense mechanism against viral infection .
