January industrial production 0.6%↓… Decrease in 8 months
Korea’s industrial production turned downward after eight months.
According to the National Statistical Office, Korea’s industrial production in January decreased by 0.6% compared to the previous month.
Industrial production declined in eight months since -1.5% in May last year.
Retail sales, representing consumption, increased 1.6% from the previous month as sales of household appliances and clothing increased.
In addition, although facility investment decreased in the automotive sector, investment in semiconductor manufacturing machinery increased by 6.2%.
The cyclical fluctuation of the coincident index, which represents the current economy, fell 0.2 points from the previous month, but the cyclical fluctuation of the leading index, which predicts the future economy, rose 0.3 points.
