“This pandemic has a huge impact on the trafficking of children, it is a huge challenge for us, but we are not giving up,” Yolanthe tells Show news. Domestic violence, child trafficking and rape have increased in many countries in recent years. Now that many people stay at home because of the measures and there is a lack of social control, these numbers are growing enormously.

Due to the crisis, the annual action, Lock me Up – Free a Girl, has been postponed for the time being. Director Evelien Hölsken says that this does not prevent them from taking action. For example, Yolanthe and her aid organization continue to provide information and have taken the initiative in Nepal to broadcast radio commercials to warn families.
“It is especially important that people realize that fighting Covid-19 cannot stop our activities. And that there is a realization that we need the support of governments and sponsors right now,” says Evelien Hölsken. “The pandemic has a huge impact on the entire world population. But in times of economic crisis, the most vulnerable target groups suffer the most and that is children in middle to low income countries. Our work is more important than ever.”
