Yogyakarta City Government Intensify Tuberculosis Examination

Harianjogja.com, JOGJA – The City Government (Pemkot) of Jogja is increasing efforts to track and check in a number of areas for residents suffering from tuberculosis (TB). Of the three ministry of education carried out in the early stages, it was found that at least 66 residents had the disease.

Deputy Mayor of Jogja, Heroe Poerwadi said that in the next few months his party together with the Zero TB Initiative for Tropical Medicine Center FKKMK UGM, the Health Service and also the Puskesmas in each region will conduct examinations on a number of residents to map out zoning and appropriate policies for handling the disease.

“We are currently doing mapping for dense areas and also potential and there are findings of TB cases. From there we then map out how many people have suffered from TB, how many have been exposed and what kind of close contact, so the work pattern is the same as the work pattern of Covid-19,” he said. 19,” said Heroe during a TB examination in Gowongan Village, Mergangsan, Friday (3/9/2021).

He explained that, until now, inspections have only been carried out in three ministries, namely the Gondomanan, Keraton and Mergangsan areas. From the three areas, there were 66 residents with TB. Therefore, in the future, his party will try to make inspections run to all areas so that handling policies can be carried out optimally.

“Later, when everything has been determined, we will determine the red, yellow, green zones and each zone will also make SOPs for handling them,” said Heroe.

In the examination process, he collaborated with the Zero TB Initiative, which uses mobile screening. There is a special vehicle unit that will capture the lung conditions of residents and accurately detect health conditions. Usually, in general, people who are infected with the bacteria that cause TB have no symptoms. When there are usually symptoms in the form of coughing sometimes bloody, weight loss, night sweats, and fever.

Director of Zero TB Initiative, dr. Rina Triasih said that the inspection process for residents was carried out by means of X-rays through a device placed in a mobile screening. The procedure was carried out by means of an ordinary x-ray, but his party was assisted with artificial intelligence (AI) technology which would later be able to accurately detect the results of the x-ray carried out.

“This artificial intelligence is only to help, because when doctors read X-rays, the interpretations are usually different and subjective, so with this AI it is hoped that the differences in diagnosis can be minimized,” he explained.

Rina explained that, in diagnosing, she collaborated between the use of AI and the doctor’s diagnostic ability. When the X-ray process leads to TB or the person being examined has symptoms of TB, such as coughing for more than two weeks or coughing up blood, it will be followed up with a sputum examination. Therefore, the diagnosis of people with TB must be accurately ascertained whether the sputum of the person being examined does contain TB bacteria or not.

“If the process of determining the suspect [terduga] TB was less than a minute. When the person being examined enters the mobile screening, he takes a breath and takes a photo of the condition of his lungs, it will be immediately visible. The results are immediately connected and visible, if there are black spots in certain areas it is suspect. So later we will only collect the results of the sputum to be examined at the hospital,” he said.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy, who reviewed the examination process, appreciated the innovation of equipment used to detect TB. He said that the use of the tool could also simultaneously detect Covid-19, because the process and method of examination tend to be the same.

He explained, until now there are 860,000 people with TB nationally. According to him, this figure is the initial number and only those identified, there are still 47 percent of residents who have not been identified. “This can be called an iceberg phenomenon, because the transmission is almost the same as Covid-19, especially in the family environment, so if there is one, it can spread to other members,” he said.
