Brentford Forward Yoane Wissa Publicly Calls on Club to honor Agreement, Facilitate Newcastle transfer
Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has issued a public statement criticizing the club for blocking his desired move to Newcastle United, asserting they are breaking a promise to allow his departure. The statement, released with hours remaining in the transfer window, details Wissa’s frustration adn desire to join Eddie Howe‘s side.
Wissa’s situation is linked to a potential broader transfer involving Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who is reportedly seeking to join Liverpool and has accused newcastle of ”broken promises” in his own attempt to force an exit. Wissa’s public appeal marks a important escalation in a summer-long standoff with Brentford, who he claims have rebuffed “fair offers” despite prior assurances.
Since joining Brentford in 2021, Wissa has scored 49 goals in 149 games, including 19 Premier League goals last season. He flew home early from the club’s summer training camp in Portugal in July after communicating his desire to move to Newcastle.
“I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled make it clear that I want to leave Brentford,” Wissa stated. “I believe the club are unduly standing in my way despite a series of fair offers throughout the summer. This has left me in a difficult and frustrating position. It saddens me to have to write that, and I maintain total respect for the club and its fans.”
Wissa further stated he was “under the impression, from all my conversations with Brentford, that there was a mutual agreement to part ways” after a formal offer from another Premier League club was submitted. He insists he has acted professionally throughout the process.
“I ask Brentford’s owners and directors to now honour their promise to let me leave in the final hours of the window,” Wissa added. He briefly returned to first-team training but has since resumed training separately from the squad and removed all Brentford-related content from his Instagram account.
