YASA‌ Achieves Record-Breaking Power Density in New Electric Motor Prototype

OXFORD, UK – October ⁢22, 2023 - YASA, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Group, today announced a new milestone in electric motor technology, achieving a peak power⁢ rating of 750kW and a‍ power density of 59kW/kg in it’s latest ⁢prototype motor. ⁤This surpasses YASA’s previous benchmarks and sets a new, unofficial‌ world record for power density.

“To achieve a 750kW short-term peak rating and a density of 59kW/kg is a major validation of our next-generation axial flux technology,” ⁤said Tim Woolmer, Founder‍ and‌ CTO of YASA. “It’s proof of what focused engineering innovation can ⁣achieve. And ⁤this isn’t a concept on a screen – it’s running, right now, ‍on the dynos.”

The⁤ company’s engineering ⁣team is currently conducting extended testing cycles to validate the prototype’s performance. initial dyno results have exceeded expectations, with Simon Odling, YASA’s Chief of New Technology, noting the motor’s performance “has exceeded even⁤ our ⁢most optimistic simulations.”⁤ YASA‍ estimates the motor will deliver continuous power in the region of 350kW-400kW.

“With three times the performance density of⁣ today’s leading radial flux motors, YASA continues to redefine the boundaries ‌of‍ what’s ⁢possible in electric motor design,” ‌added Joerg Miska, CEO ‍of⁣ YASA.”Our technology is delivering measurable results today, while paving the way for a new generation of lightweight, efficient electric propulsion systems.”

YASA’s ⁤axial-flux electric powertrain technology is designed to deliver high power and torque densities in a compact and lightweight package, targeting the high-performance automotive sector. The company employs over 400 people across sites ‍in Oxford,Bicester, and Welshpool.

Further details on the prototype motor’s advancement ⁢will be released in the coming weeks. Media inquiries can be directed to media@yasa.com.
