PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) is ready to test the Yamaha E01 electric motorcycle market in Indonesia in the second semester of 2022. There are a total of 20 Yamaha E01 units distributed throughout Indonesia.
“Today Yamaha Indonesia officially announced to conduct a Test Market on the E01 on public roads in Indonesia to see its adaptability and collect input from consumers directly,” said Minoru Morimoto, President Director of PT. YIMM at the E01 Yamaha Indonesia Press Conference which was held on Friday (22/04/22) in Jakarta.
Currently, Yamaha Indonesia is taking care of the readiness of the E01 test unit which will be distributed to the public. Yamaha said, this E01 can be tested by the media and also the general consumer.
“We got 20 units and we will start 20 units from the second semester (2022). Hopefully, after Eid, the homologation will be completed, so that later we can test it soon. We estimate that the second semester means July,” said Dyonisius Beti, Executive Vice President Director & COO of PT. YIMM
“And which customer is chosen to try it? Of course our Marketing and PR team also wants to give journalists the opportunity to test and after that we will choose consumers,” continued Dyonisius.
Yamaha confirms that the E01 or the vehicles they sell in general are from Yamaha for direct consumers. However, they are also open to government agencies who wish to collaborate.

“Yamaha’s goal is not to sell only to agencies, selling from B to B or not. In Indonesia it’s more B to C. But if the Ministry of Industry, PLN, Pertamina want testing, of course (we) are very welcome to collaborate,”
Please note, the E01 electric scooter market test program is a Yamaha Proof of Concept (PoC) program. Not only Indonesia, this program is also carried out in Japan, Europe, Taiwan, Thailand, to Malaysia.
Proof of Concept (PoC) Planner Yamaha Motor, Nomura Yasushi said, testing the E01 electric scooter in 6 different countries was deliberately carried out in order to obtain various inputs, considering that each test area has different characteristics, both in terms of weather conditions, roads, including driving habits.
On a different occasion, Nomura said, in this test the battery performance will be tested, how to use it, and the effect of temperature or weather on the battery.
“For example, the climates of Thailand and Indonesia are tropical, Taiwan is subtropical and the climates in Japan and Europe are moderate. By testing PLC (Programable Logic Controller) in different climates, our research can be more in-depth,” Nomura at a virtual Yamaha Motor E01 Product Briefing event , Thursday (21/4/2022).
The market test of the Yamaha E01 electric motorcycle will last for one year to obtain comprehensive data regarding the driving behavior of Indonesian consumers towards the E01.
